New Vulkan SDKs Support VK_KHR_synchronization2

Today LunarG releases new Windows, Linux, and macOS SDKs for Vulkan header 1.2.170. These SDKs include support for Vulkan Synchronization2 and several other new extensions. The prior SDK supported Vulkan API revision 1.2.162.  Read on for information about the new extensions.

Overview of new extensions in Vulkan SDK 1.2.170.0

The VK_KHR_synchronization2 extension brings extensive improvements to Vulkan queue submission, events, and pipeline barriers resulting in significant usability enhancements for developers. Read more about Synchronization2 in a Khronos blog published today.

Here’s a list of the new extensions:

  • VK_KHR_synchronization2
  • VK_KHR_workgroup_memory_explicit_layout
  • VK_KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory
  • VK_NV_acquire_winrt_display
  • VK_VALVE_mutable_descriptor_type
  • A new layer, called VK_LAYER_KHRONOS_synchronization2 has been included in this SDK. It is designed to be a transparent helper that provides an extension implementation if your device’s driver doesn’t have one yet.
